Modeling ecological impacts of land use practices on biotic and abiotic resources

Claudia Sattler’s role in CIVILand

In CIVILand Claudia's research was focused on the use of modeling approaches in ecosystem service analysis as well as their usage in the instrument design of Payments for Ecosystem Services.

Biography

Claudia is a natural scientist. She holds a diploma in horticultural science from the Leibniz-University of Hannover, Germany, and a PhD in agricultural science from the Department of Agricultural Economics, Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany. For her PhD thesis she focused on the topic "Ecological evaluation of agricultural farming practices and the analysis of farmers' acceptance for the implementation of more environmentally-friendly practices".

Before her studies she completed a vocational training for gardener.

She is a senior researcher at ZALF, where she started working in 1999. She has extensive expertise in international as well as national research projects, e.g. CiVi.net (www.civinet.eu, 7. EU Framework program, scientific coordination), MEAScope (6. EU Framework program), Scenar 2020 II Update-Study (EU), SoCo-CS (EU), AgChange (BMBF), Mid-term and ex-post evaluation of the rural development program (agri-environmental programs) of Brandenburg (MLUR), Habitat quality of arable lands (UBA/BfN), amongst others.

For two years, form 2010-2012, Claudia was a visiting scholar at the Gund Institute of Ecological Economics at the University of Vermont, USA.

In 2010/2011 she was a selected participant of the ProFiL-program (mentoring - training - networking) which prepares outstanding female scholars for leadership positions in science and higher education.

Throughout the runtime of the CIVILand-project Claudia had a teaching appointments at the University of Rostock, Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (Module Environmental Economics), the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (Module Agriculture and Environment), and the University of Vermont, Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources, in cooperation with Dr. Roelof Boumans from the Gund Institute for Ecological Economics (Module Introduction to Simulation Modeling).
