Focus of research

Financial incentives of environmental policy, inter- and transdisciplinary environmental research

Bettina Matzdorf’s role in CIVILand

Bettina Matzdorf is the head of the junior research group CIVILand. She oversees the work of this interdisciplinary team and designs the research process.

Central in her research are PES in the field of tension between governmental and civil implementation. She will work on sub-project 1 “Significance and innovation potential of non-governmental versus governmental PES in dependence on the institutional framework”

Institutional as well as instrumental innovations are within the focus of her work. Bettina Matzdorf’s goal is to analyze the necessary interplay between governmental and civil stakeholders including the institutional framework rather than simply comparing governmental and civil approaches of PES. To discover the beneficial interplay between state and civil society she will improve and use trans-disciplinary research approaches.

Biography

Bettina Matzdorf studied landscape planning at the Technischen Universität in Berlin. She gained her doctoral degree in the framework of the interdisciplinary graduate programme "Integrative environmental assessment" at the Ecology Centre, Christian-Albrechts University in Kiel with a dissertation on "Outcome-oriented measures and remuneration environmental services of agriculture - An interdisciplinary analysis of an agro-environmental economic instrument."

Bettina Matzdorf has been working at the Institute of Socio-Economics at the Leibniz-Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) since 2002, leading the research group "Instruments and institutions." Her previous research focuses were on the evaluation and further development of economic and planning instruments for the control of sustainable landscape development.

Bettina Matzdorf served several years on the board of the Berliner BUND and later acted as chairman until she began her parental leave.
